A married couple was arguing about who is making the coffee. The wife said that in the Bible it says that men should make the coffee and the husband asked her where it said that. The wife opened the Bible and said: "Right here in HEBREWS!"

Think on These Things - Hidden in Plain Sight

  A few days ago, I was editing a document at work. I came across an unfamiliar word and so I stopped to check for its meaning,m in order to be sure that it was being used correctly. When I returned to the document, I could not remember the section where I had come across the word.  I read several lines in the general area hoping to find the word and continue. That proved to be a difficult task. Look as I may, I could not locate the word. I thought it strange. My eyes were really playing tricks on me. Devotional - Pardon our Progress

For it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. Philippians 2:13   As I exited my vehicle at work one morning, I looked across to the newly constructed extension to the parking lot admiring how beautiful, spacious and well laid out it was. It was a sight to behold! My mind then went back to the previous day, when two of my neighbours, having passed the location that day, were very impressed with what they saw and mentioned it to me. I looked on with a sigh of relief, happy with the fact that there would be no more parking problems, at least for a very long time.  As I reflected on the new upgrade, the words ' pardon our progress' flashed across my mind, and this time, my mind was taken back to the days when the work was in progress. Devotional - When God Speaks

  I collected my first royalty cheque for my published works in December 2016. I was thrilled and pleasantly surprised. Earlier that year I had attended a writers’ workshop and learned that persons who have published works could register them with a local copyright organization and would receive royalty payments at the end of each year. I was quite excited about this opportunity and so I set about registering my three published articles shortly thereafter. When I received an email notifying me that my cheque was ready for pickup, I didn’t have high expectations about the amount that I would receive. I was cautiously optimistic, thinking that it could be about J$5000 if that much. When I looked at my cheque, my eyes widened in disbelief as it was far more than I had imagined.   After I got home, I made a mental note to pay my tithe from the amount, as a dutiful Christian should. Deuteronomy 6:5 (NIV) Recently I was reflecting on the fact that many of us are guilty of being casual and nonchalant in our efforts to achieve the things that we desire. We put out minimum efforts, expecting maximum results and then give up when things don’t turn out the way we had expected. Then instead of accepting that we are at fault, we seek a scapegoat, someone to blame. Until we accept responsibility and make it our duty to do what we are supposed to do, our dreams and visions will never materialize.   As it is in the natural, so it is in the spiritual.  We may desire to develop a deeper and more meaningful relationship with the Father but are unwilling to make the sacrifice that is required.  The things we desire will not come by simply thinking about them or wishing for them. Devotional - Don't Be Distracted

  Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. *  Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:41-42). I took up my phone to register for an upconference which had caught my interest, but instead, got caught up in scrolling on Facebook. After some time I had enough and switched to another social media site. The flyer for the conference popped up on my screen and it was then that I remembered why I had picked up the phone in the first place. I had become distracted and lost sight of what I had set out to do. I had caused the unimportant to distract me from the important.  Thankfully, I was able to get back on track. Distractions have a way of turning the focus from what is important. The story of Jesus at the house of Mary and Martha is one such example.
